Mission Statement

The Institute for School Innovation (ISI) is a private non-profit organization based in Tallahassee, Florida. Founded in 1995, the Institute engages in research and development to increase teacher effectiveness through technology and active learning. The Institute’s programs are used in public and private schools across the United States.
ISI provides professional development along with a teacher certification system and school recognition program for Project CHILD educators. ISI also provides grants and scholarships to assist qualified schools in adopting its programs and to establish CHILD coordinators within a district. ISI has distributed over $5 million in state and private funding to promote innovation in education.
The Institute hosts a national conference for CHILD educators, as well as district and regional support events for teachers. ISI also conducts leadership training events for principals and administrators.
ISI recognizes teachers committed to change and innovation through its "Innovation Sustainer" and “Classroom Champion for Change” awards. ISI also recognizes innovative school and district leaders through various “Innovative Leader of the Year” awards. These awards are presented at the annual CHILD conference.
ISI is governed by a board of directors consisting of K-12 educators, faculty in higher education, as well as business and community leaders committed to education and children's issues. ISI is funded through donations, grants and contracts, and fees charged for its programs and services.
