Included in the guide are black line masters to use in making presentations to community groups, and strategies to involve the entire school in adopting the effective practices in Project CHILD.
Planning Guides: A Resource for Integrating Technology and Coordinating Station Work Across Grade Levels
The Planning Guides help teachers plan and coordinate constructive learning activities for their multi-grade students. There are six guides in all—one each for reading, writing and mathematics in both primary and intermediate grades. The Planning Guides are organized into six-week topical units.
The contents include suggested software for each topic and unit, overall goals, objectives which are referenced to state standards, standards of excellence and standardized tests, teaching tips, skills checklists for each grade level, lists of materials and resources, and station activity pages. The CHILD Composite Assessment System (included with the Planning Guides) provides a systematic approach to create authentic assessment portfolios for students.
Activities Guides: A Resource for Jump Starting Hands-On Learning Tied to Basic Skills
The Activities Guides are a companion to the Planning Guides. There are also six Activities Guides which provide ideas for hands-on station activities. The guides are organized by skill objectives, activity name, benchmarks, and include black line masters, teacher and student directions, and Task Cards for each activity. The Task Card is a unique feature of the CHILD classroom management system. Each station activity has a Task Card which directs the student’s work. Specific objectives and directions are given so that students can work independently and constructively.
Passports
The CHILD Passport is a management tool to help students became organized and focused on their work. The Passport is a practice record used to assess students’ effort at the learning stations. Students also use the Passport to set and assess goals. Students have a Passport for each of the three subject areas—one Passport per unit.
Students bring home the Passports at the end of each six-week unit. Parents become an integral part of the learning team when they have a visual record of their child’s work in the classroom. The Passport helps parents and children understand the academic significance of the station activities.
